CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, specialising in Ageing and Disability, provides an opening into both industries giving you strong employment options both now and into the future. Our goal is to assist you to find meaningful employment after you complete your training.
Hope College Australia is a Skilled Assure Supplier under the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. We offer this training in partnership with Hope of the Gold Coast Ltd through their Voice of Hope project which is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Course Structure
To be awarded the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability), a student must successfully complete fifteen (15) units, comprising of:
Nine (9) core units, and; six (6) elective units, of which: all Group A and Group B electives must be selected.
Core units (9):
- CHCCCS031 Provide individualised support
- CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
- CHCCCS040 Support independence and well being
- CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
- CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
- CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
- CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
- HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
- HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
Group A elective units (3) (Ageing specialisation)
- CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia
- CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
- CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
Group B elective units (3)(Disability specialisation)
- CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
- CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
- CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
All students will also complete:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (this unit is outsourced to another RTO)
WORK-BASED TRAINING (WBT)
Work-Based Training (WBT) for SQW participants will be arranged by our partner Hope of the Gold Coast LTD with one of their partner companies. Students will undertake a minimum of 120 hours in total of WBT with both an aged care and disability provider.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to enroll an applicant must be:
- be aged 18 years or older
- be a Queensland resident
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident, or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
- be unemployed or working casually fewer than 15 hours a week
- need support to gain the skills or qualifications required to achieve any of the following goals:
- successfully gain employment
- secure more stable employment
- build foundation skills to the level for the successful completion of a vocational qualification
- reskill and retrain following redundancy or a long absence from work

NB: RPL: Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is all about the skills and knowledge you've collected through work and life experiences and then transferring them to current training course requirements. We assess evidence you provide of your competency to determine if you meet the required standards that may used to award credits towards a qualification. You will find more information about RPL in the student handbook.
Credit Transfer: Hope College Australia recognises and accepts Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO. Direct Credit Transfer (DCT) will be given to any student who has successfully completed units in any of our accredited courses with another RTO. Prior to the commencement of studies students must produce a copy of their Record of Results/Statement of Attainment or give the Student Services account permission for Hope College to view their USI transcript online.

Aged Care Units:
- CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people
- CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia
- CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs
- HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
Disability Care Units:
- CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
- CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centered behavior support
- CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion
- CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
WORK-BASED TRAINING (WBT)
Work-Based Training (WBT) will be arranged by the college with one of our partner companies. Students will undertake 140-160 hours in total of WBT with both an aged care and disability provider.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to enroll an applicant must be:
- be aged 18 years or older
- be a Queensland resident
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident, or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
- be unemployed or working casually fewer than 15 hours a week
- provide evidence of COVID-19 (including booster) and be willing to obtain the influenza vaccination; and
- need support to gain the skills or qualifications required to achieve any of the following goals:
- successfully gain employment
- secure more stable employment
- build foundation skills to the level for the successful completion of a vocational qualification
- reskill and retrain following redundancy or a long absence from work
APPLICATION PROCESS
To enrol in the course, an applicant must:
- Complete and submit to Hope College the following documents:
- Application Questionnaire and Skills Audit form
- Copy of personal identification (i.e. Driver’s licence, passport, Medicare card or any other proof of address as necessary); and
- Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination record
- Attend an interview to assess the applicant’s suitability for the course and work placement
- Complete an online Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) Assessment
- Supply Hope College with a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number; and
- Undergo the following checks (costs covered by the College):
- Criminal History Check – link will be provided to student after completion of LLN test
- NDIS Worker Screening Check – link will be provided once we receive a clear Police Check from the student
- Complete the NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ and provide the College with a copy of the Certificate of Completion
